What I'm Watching Now

WINE COUNTRY

WINE COUNTRY

It isn’t often that I find a movie where I relate to the characters on such an extreme level. If you are a woman in your 40s then you have to watch Amy Poehler’s new movie, Wine Country. The former SNL cast member directs and stars in this story of lifelong friends traveling to Napa for a 50th birthday celebration.

I love movies like Girl’s Trip and Bridesmaids but this story is probably the most accurate reflection of what a getaway weekend would REALLY be with my middle-aged mom friends. Yes, I said it…middle-aged. I’m not ashamed. I’m in my 40s and it is refreshing to see a movie that doesn’t feature either 20 somethings at a bachelorette party or a Diane Keaton comedy about women in their 60s reflecting on their regretful life choices. (Hey, I love her but you know I’m right.) Wine Country also stars Rachel Dratch, Ana Gasteyer, Maya Rudolph and Tina Fey.

LUCIFER

LUCIFER

If you were a fan of Fox’s Lucifer but were devastated when it was canceled after three seasons…I have good news! The series was picked up by Netflix and Season 4 is currently streaming.

I don’t want to admit that I have a binge watching addiction but we all know that I do. I finished the whole season in a one day.

ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO

ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO

I also binged all of Roswell, New Mexico Season 1. Now, I realize I just went on a rant about enjoying a movie which reflects mature women but I also enjoy sexy supernatural stories about forbidden young love.

Finally, Dead To Me is not about forbidden love as much as it is about forbidden friendship. Christina Applegate plays a widow raising two sons after her husband is killed in a hit and run jogging accident. She meets a quirky woman (Linda Cardellini) who is not what she originally claims to be.

There will be moments where you laugh then cry and then go “WHAT? I didn’t see that one coming!” Again…I have a super power (or no life). I finished the first season in two days.
